Earthing & Equipotential Bonding Test

Home > Project Highlights > Earthing Test

During a new open office setup, we installed new vertical trunking connecting ceiling void to the desks workstations. This trunking system was made of metallic double compartment to separate network cables from electrical cables.

Should the electrical cables insulation is broken, the trunking can become live posing risk of electrical shock to anyone who touch the trunking. Therefore, trunking must me connected to earth so that in case of this electrical fault, fault current can safely pass to ground and allow the fault current devices to act and isolate the fault circuit.

In addition, all the metallic installations are interconnected so that they are at the same potential and this again minimises dangerous voltage differences between conductive parts if a fault occur within one of the conductive part. This interconnection is referred to as equipotential bonding.

The IEC standard that we follow while installing earthing systems is IEC-60364-5-54 :- Selection and erection of electrical equipment – Earthing arrangements and protective conductors.
